My hilarious, adorable, awesome niece Kayla just started her first job working for Chic-fil-A. Out of respect for her personal safety and to preserve her job security, I’ll not disclose the location. (Just know it’s not Lysa T.‘s :) Here are thoughts she shared with the family from her first few weeks on the job:

These are the rules for people who want to purchase fast food:

1) Dont be a deaf old man who cant hear my questions (or at least dont yell when i ask them… I have to do it)

2) dont have gross breath

3) wash your nasty hands before you hand me money

4) dont tell your kids to lie and say they didnt get a toy in their kid’s meal so they can get extra ice cream

5) make sure your coupons (if cut out of a newspaper) are not torn in half

6) dont hand me change after i hit the total button

7) dont let your kids rub their nasty hands ALL OVER the windows, doors, tables, chairs, ME!

8) if your over the age of 12…. and are def. drunk. dont ask for 1000 balloons

9) dont ask me to hold an ice cream coupon til after you eat…. hold it your self lazy

10) if you do order your ice cream the same time you get your food. dont complain that it’s melting

11) If you are in the middle of delivering pizza…. dont come through our drive through…. deliver your pizza…lol

12) dont pull up to the drive through then yell at ur kids asking them wat they want…. KNOW WHAT THEY WANT

13) AND YES IT COSTS EXTRA TO SUBSTITUTE A MILKSHAKE FOR A DRINK

14) dont ask what our strips taste like….. they’re just big nuggets

15) when in doubt about what sauce to get… our polenesian and chick-fil-a sauces are BOSS

and that’s purrty much it haha

So now when a 16 year old ChicFilA employee tells you, “It’s my pleasure!” you know what they are really thinking..

And Kayla, I apologize. I’m totally guilty of numbers 6 and 12..:)))

Anybody else wanna confess?

I am not guilty of any of those. However my son added years back, just because you are old and retired doesn’t mean you have a license to be cranky, mean or rude. After all, I don’t get paid to stand and listen to you scream at me because I won’t give you another freebie!

Oh boy…. I have a son who decides what he wants, and then as soon as it is our turn to order, he changes his mind. It’s absolutely maddening!!!

Those are so funny. We once had someone ask us to call ahead when we went through the drive throug (because of how big our order was). They where a bit embareased to find out that it was just our family.

In HIS Keeping,
Mrs.B

I had to laugh at these…..having worked in some sort of retail for some time you see the best and worst in people.
The thing is after you have worked it….you AREN’T the ones standing impatiently in the grocery line or commenting on a sales clerks attitude (it has to be Really, extremely, unlawfully bad before you get upset) because you have a general idea of the kind of stuff that is said to her, asked of her, and attitude given to her during the day….you tend to give them all ALOT of grace!!! LOL
(just ask me about the little old guy on the scooter that came into our shop in the Chattanooga mall on a regular basis that wanted to show us his pictures from the nudist camp…..good grief)
Great post!!!
Hugs,
Debbie

Ha! Thanks for the laugh this morning!
Poor girl, people can be very rude and inconsiderate.
I worked at Subway as a teenager, so I try my best not to do any of those things on the list….I knew just how the workers feel!

This is funny to me because my oldest’s first job was with Chic-Fil-A . I can promise you it is never their pleasure if you order 50 nugget trays in the drive thru OR 50 nugget trays 10 minutes before they close. True story.

I think everyone should work fast food at least once in their lifetime! It teaches compassion, for sure.

I don’t know your niece, but learning to count change ensures you’ll never fear hitting the Total button!

Sweet Sister…..This is so funny because I think I might be probably half of those listed. Sometimes I’m just so glad that we have made it from the parking lot in to the 4 walls of the establishment that there is no telling what I ask or say to the poor worker. They probably think to themselves “crazy lady with all the children….stay clear.”
I love your blog~
~r

She’s off to a great start! EVERYONE should work in a retail environment at least once in their lives! Surely then no one would enter a retail establishment and make them stay past closing to serve them! I promise, it is sooooo NOT their pleasure!

…and Kayla, if you have anything to do with the new and improved chicken strips….they are waaay better than the nuggets! Things are already lookin’ up for Chic Fil A since you started!…haha!

I am def. guilty of #12.
Although, in defense of parents everywhere, sometimes this cannot be helped because children tend to change their minds…..at least mine do.

See you next week?

I love to ask my kids if they want “chicken” or “cheeseburgers” when we go to Chick-fil-A (or Chicken Lay as my kids call it). It totally cracks up my 7 year old.

Not so much the Chicken Lay peeps.

My apologies to them…..

My oldest is about to start working at burger place as a waitress. I will totally have to steal this idea for a blog when she starts sharing some stories. (That is, if she’s able to keep the job…I have my doubts about her patience with people.)

I worked at Wendy’s for 3 years, so I can relate to most of these in some fashion.

12 is for sure my kicker! My kids sometimes change their minds 10 times! This was too funny!

Ok for any of you mom’s out there with multiple kids…you know #12 is inevitable!
You can have them PRE decide….and still….there will be issues at the microphone.

I love it….sounds like she’s getting a taste of society’s weakness for lack of courtesy!
Poor kid!

Fast food workers…..R O C K !!!

I so agree with her on the no change AFTER i hit the total button. I hate that. A guy did that the other day to me and i just refused to take it. In a nice way of course but how do they expect me to count change when they keep talking to me about how excited they are to eat their cake. I appriciate the excitement, I really do, but i have to think. I could never work at chick-fil-a because i LOVE it way too much. After a while it would become gross, and i cant live without those those fries and honey!!!LOL.

Oh, Kayla will be cracking up when she sees this post on your blog.

Just so you know…#12 was the one I came up with because that is what we do all the time. Did it last night to the poor kids at Krystal as a matter of fact.

My very least favorite drive thru to get in with kids is Sonic. Mayo or Mustard or Both? Fries or Tots? And that is just the burger menu. So many different items there. Just way too many things to think about if you aren’t at least half-way prepared before you get there.

I love Chic-fil-A. I can definitely say I’m guilty of at least 6, 7 and 12.

If God would grant me the pleasure of a CFA in this state, I would be a PERFECT CUSTOMER. I promise, Lord.

I’d just like to thank Kayla and all Chick-fil-a employees for being so nice! I am guilty of having a two-year-old who has a tantrum and has to get spanked in the bathroom every time we go in the restaurant. My bad, y’all!

My son works at a retail chain and he tells me about people who yell at him about the prices when THEY don’t have enough cash to pay for their purchase. I think they’re just embarassed and take it out on him.

BTW, I am always guilty of not knowing what I want until I get up there…so I always make them wait (blush!).

Hilarious… Just too funny. I am right there with ya’ Kayla. You ROCK!

Welcome to the world of retail… LOL.
I learned a great life lesson at my first retail job.

My pet peeve was to tell a customer how much their purchase was, holding out my hand to receive their payment, only for them to place it UNDER my hand on the counter, where I had to try to pick up each little coin, one by one. There was an edge on the counter, so I couldn’t just sweep it off.

An older coworker suggested that I quit ‘setting myself up for sure disappointment and anger’ by NOT holding my hand out and just know that part of my job was to pick up the coins off the counter. (DUH! Why didn’t I think of that!?!)

But that has been a lesson I have retained ALL THESE MANY YEARS later… don’t set yourself up for disappointment.

Fun post today, Lisa!

I didn’t know you could get an extra ice-cream if you say you didn’t get your toy…I’ve been missing out! Just kidding. We don’t have Chick-Fil-A up here in the North. It’s very sad really. This was a great post.

I think 11 is hilarious. Next time my pizza is late and cold I am gonna wonder….

I’m def guilty of 7 and 12. :) So funny! I, too, appreciate the employees and the crud they put up with. :)

Sounds like an adventure! LOL I can’t believe #4…that’s awful!
~Kelli

That is so funny! I have never really thought about it. I guess sometimes we don’t think about who is waiting on us. I’ll bet she is a real cutie! Sounds like she has your personality :)

I am laughing so hard! My favorite are 14 and 15. :) Totally asked what the fingers tasted like last time. I can attest, they did taste like huge nuggets.

I had no idea that Chic-fil-a employees were required to say, “It’s my pleasure.” I was going through the drive thru with a friend getting ice cream and I asked the drive thru girl for something else and she said, “It’s my pleasure.” I turned to my friend and said, “wow, she must really like her job!”
Then my friend let me know they have to say it…….hahaha

LOL!!
I am guilty of asking Morgan what she wants.

Number 12 always hangs me up. But I’ve never even thought to do most of the list! Until now that is…

That’s pretty funny. I can totally see how those things would get on her nerves. Yes I’m guilty of a few myself.
Thanks for the laugh.
Lynn

HYSTERICAL! I am SO guilty of #12-every. single. time!!! I’ve even said to my daughter, “Why do I ask you what you want? I already know what you want!!” Your poor niece! I swore I would never work in fast food for all the reasons she’s listed! Tell her retail is just as fun, though-oh, don’t get me started on the dressing rooms!!

Kayla sounds like a girl after her auntie Lisa’s heart… and humor.

Maybe she should start a blog… Thoughts of a fast food employee…

Number 6… that is so me.

That is so funny! Mad me laugh!! I remember when my youngest brother started working in a restaurant in high school. He came home so appalled at how gross people were.

So I am guilty of at least 6, 12, and 14. I remember being 16 and being a waitress at Cabbage Bowl. That was too much fun. I have some good ones on people! haha

If my kids aren’t guilty of #12, then I am:-) I like options, and how do I know what they are before I get to the window? (Other than the guaranteed sweet tea that I know we will be drinking!)

So Guilty of
#1, #6 and #12

although my crew changes their mind through out the process which just adds to the mayhem!

will try to do better!

Wait, number 8 is wrong? My baaaad…
(:

My son-in-law used to be a manager @ Chic-Fil-A and one of my daughters worked there too. So I KNOW how to behave!!!
It’s my pleasure! ;)

I love Chic-Fil-A!!!

And when I get the ice “dream” I always ask for a packet of sunflower seeds to put on top along with the chocolate…!

Yummy!!!
